Veterans Affairs Physician Assistant Association

President's Message

Dear Colleagues,

Thank you for visiting the homepage of the Veterans Affairs Physician Assistant Association (VAPAA). I am honored to have been elected to the position of President of the Veterans Affairs Physician Assistant Association. My background is that of a PA for 17 years, Navy veteran, Hospital Corpsman on active duty for 4 years with subsequent active reserves for 4 years. I now practice in the Houston VA for the past 11 years.

Why is it important to be a member of VAPAA? What can this organization do for me and my profession? The questions are all valid ones.   They are the same questions I asked myself when I first became employed at the VA in 2007. I quickly became a member of VAPAA in 2008 as I realized the importance of VAPAAThe reason is simple: VAPAA’s mission is exclusively dedicated to the issues and interests of Physician Assistants in the VA.  It is an organization with the solitary goal of directly impacting our professional status within VHA. No other AAPA constituent group is solely dedicated to PAs in the VA system.

As a member you are assisting in VAPAAs ability to promote the interests of our profession. There is strength in numbers which lends to our ability to effectively engage in legislative activities and advancing the PA profession in the VHA.  In addition, our membership numbers affect the number of delegates VAPAA has at the House of Delegates for AAPA.  As VA PAs we need to have foresight and be proactive and not reactive in our approach.  Utilizing this method, we can anticipate changes and ensure that our profession moves in the direction we desire. In order to accomplish this we need dedicated members. If not a member please visit the membership tab and join today

Thank you to all our current, future, and past members for all that each and every one of you do in taking care of our nation’s veterans.

Thank you and best wishes,

Rubina DaSilva, MBA-HC, PA-C, DFAAPA
