To my fellow VA PAs:
Welcome to the Veterans Affairs Physician Assistant Association (VAPAA). The ONLY constituent chapter of AAPA solely dedicated to advancing the PA profession at the VA.
This is a very exciting time to be a VAPAA member! VAPAA has made tremendous strides in the past few years and will continue to fight for our members in Washington and around the nation!
I am your president Kathy Howard, MSPAS, PA-C. I have been a VAPAA member for the past 13 years—it is one of the first things I joined when I became employed by the VA. I have held positions of Director-at-large and VP before becoming your president.
With the help of our former VAPAA presidents and Vice Presidents, VAPAA was successful in gaining support for the Choice Quality and Employment Act, which was singed into law in August 2017. This law increases educational assistance provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs for education and training of physician assistants of the Department, to establish pay grades and require competitive pay for physician assistants of the Department, and for other purposes. Although we are still awaiting complete implementation of this, we are hopeful that once implemented, PAs across VA will finally be paid equally to other advanced practice providers.
Please be assured that we are not done. We will continue to fight for you.
We have had several wonderful CME conferences over the past years and will strive to continue to provide quality conferences with superb educational content as well as VA specific content to assist you in your VA careers.
If you are already a member, thank you! If you are not, please consider joining. It is only through the dedication of our members and volunteer BOD that we can be successful and a continued voice for all VA PAs.
